DoD STEM Strategic Plan, FY 2021-2025

The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and the Components are invested in developing current and future STEM talent throughout DoD to meet its unique mission. This Department-wide STEM strategic plan, coupled with its follow-on implementation plan, provides an overarching framework for achieving the DoD STEM mission and vision. These are driven by Federal priorities while addressing and leveraging DoD’s unique mission, needs, and resources.

DoD STEM is committed to providing STEM education opportunities to students and educators of all ages and demographics.

Program evaluation and assessment are critical components of both the DoD STEM Strategic Plan and the Federal STEM Education Strategic Plan. DoD operates with transparency and accountability according to the DoD STEM Logic Model , to achieve the outlined goals and objectives of the Federal STEM Strategy. DoD is also committed to establishing a continuous learning structure that leverages and scales evidence-based practices across DoD STEM ecosystems; reporting participation rates and understanding the participation of underserved and underrepresented groups; using common metrics to measure progress and encourage growth; ensuring program performance and outcomes are made publicly available; spearheading a DoD-wide implementation plan; and tracking progress.

Each year, DoD STEM programs inspire students, educators, and mentors to get excited about STEM. Launch the DoD STEM data story to learn how the Department’s STEM programs align to our Strategic Goals to reach students and educators throughout the country.
